Sri Lanka Surf Camps - FAQS
What do you do at surf camp in Sri Lanka?
Our surf camps are located on the south west coast of Sri Lanka at some of the best surf spots in the country. There are surf courses and lessons for those who are new to the board, as well as courses for those who are experienced surfers and would like to fine-tune their techniques and improve their surfing skills. No matter your level of experience, our skilled instructors in Sri Lanka are always ready to help you look smooth on the ocean waves.
The surf school has room for around 14 surfers a week and when you're not surfing you can relax on the chalky white sand beaches or in the surf school's jacuzzi. There is also the opportunity to explore the surrounding villages and experience the local culture.
Our surf camp packages include shared accommodation, some meals, surf lessons, surf equipment and some optional activities. As well as practical lessons, you'll also be introduced to surf theory to help you better understand what you need to do on a board.
Depending on which surf package you choose, you can also combine surf coaching with yoga classes to keep your body supple and mind clear after a day spent in the warm water of the Indian Ocean.
Does Sri Lanka have good surfing?
With almost 1,600 kilometres of coastline and warm currents provided by the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka is a fantastic surfing destination for beginners, intermediate and advanced surfers. The south coast provides reef and beach breaks suitable for all levels with gorgeous sandy beaches to boot.
When to go to Sri Lanka surfing?
Despite being a relatively small island nation, Sri Lanka experiences different monsoon seasons across the four corners of the island. So while one area might be in the middle of the wet season, the other side of the island will be ideal for surfing.
Our surf camps are located on the southern coast of Sri Lanka and so the best time to surf here is between November and April when the skies are clear and dry.
Where can beginners surf in Sri Lanka?
At our surf camps, of course! You can choose from our surf camp at Ahangama or Hiriketiya where the waves are warm and mellow, so you don't need a wetsuit and can ease yourself into learning to do the popup on a surf board.
