Explore the Culture and Energy of San José
Your adventure starts in San José, Costa Rica's vibrant capital city and cultural hub. After your arrival, you’ll be welcomed by your guide, who will sort out all the details and make sure your trip kicks off without a hitch. Once you’ve checked into your accommodation, take some time to explore the city. Wander through the historic streets of Barrio Amón, known for its colonial architecture, or visit the National Museum to learn about Costa Rica’s fascinating history.
Don’t miss the buzzing Mercado Central, where you can snack on local treats like churros or sip a fresh fruit smoothie. In the evening, hit up one of San José’s many rooftop bars for a view of the city skyline and surrounding mountains. It’s the perfect way to gear up for the week of adventure ahead.
Nature and Adventure in La Fortuna
Next stop: La Fortuna, home to the iconic Arenal Volcano and some of the country’s most breathtaking landscapes. This town is all about adventure and nature, offering countless ways to explore the surrounding rainforest and volcanic terrain. Spend your day hiking the Arenal Volcano National Park trails, where you’ll find lava fields, towering trees, and incredible views of the volcano.
Cool off with a visit to the stunning La Fortuna Waterfall, a 70-metre cascade surrounded by lush jungle. Feeling adventurous? Try zip-lining, canyoning, or paddleboarding on Lake Arenal, Costa Rica’s largest lake. And don’t forget to treat yourself to some downtime at the natural hot springs—whether you’re soaking under the stars or relaxing after a day of activities, it’s a highlight you won’t forget.
Discover the Cloud Forests of Monteverde
Leave the volcanic landscapes behind and head to Monteverde, a misty cloud forest that’s a haven for biodiversity and adventure. Monteverde is home to the world-famous Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, where you can hike through dense greenery and discover unique wildlife, from colorful frogs to the rare resplendent quetzal bird.
For a truly unforgettable experience, walk across the hanging bridges that stretch through the forest canopy—you’ll feel like you’re walking in the clouds. If you’re up for a thrill, Monteverde is also known for its zip-lining tours, with some of the longest and highest lines in Central America. If you prefer a more grounded activity, explore coffee plantations and taste some of Costa Rica’s finest brews.
Chill Out at Nosara Beach – Guanacaste
From the cool mountain air, you’ll head to the laid-back vibes of Nosara Beach, one of Costa Rica’s most beautiful coastal areas. Known for its pristine sands, crystal-clear waters, and yoga culture, Nosara is all about slowing down and soaking up the good vibes. Spend your days lounging on the beach, taking a surf lesson, or hiking through the nearby Ostional Wildlife Refuge, a nesting site for olive ridley sea turtles.
If you’re into nature, keep an eye out for the abundant wildlife—Nosara is home to howler monkeys, iguanas, and tropical birds. For a more active day, you can paddleboard through the nearby mangroves or join a kayaking tour. End your day with a sunset picnic on the beach, because the sunsets here? They’re next level.
Surf and Sun at Santa Teresa
No Costa Rica trip is complete without a visit to Santa Teresa, a surfer’s paradise tucked away on the Nicoya Peninsula. This town is world-famous for its waves, drawing surfers from all over the globe. With expert instructors at La Point Surf School, you’ll spend your mornings learning (or perfecting) your surf skills.
When you’re not in the water, Santa Teresa offers plenty to do. Check out the nearby Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve, where you can hike through lush forests and spot wildlife like capuchin monkeys and coatimundis. The town itself is full of cozy cafés, boutique shops, and some of the best beachside restaurants in Costa Rica—perfect for refueling after a day on the waves. Don’t miss the nightly sunset sessions, where everyone gathers on the beach for good vibes and Instagram-worthy views.
Back to San José
Your adventure wraps up back in San José, giving you one last chance to soak in the city’s vibrant energy before heading home. Use this time to revisit your favorite spots or tick off anything you missed at the start of your trip. Check out the Jade Museum, known for its stunning collection of pre-Columbian artifacts, or simply grab a final bite of Costa Rican cuisine—whether it’s a hearty plate of gallo pinto or a tropical fruit smoothie.
Reflect on the memories you’ve made, from catching waves to hiking volcanoes and spotting wildlife in the rainforest. With Costa Rica’s unique blend of adventure and relaxation, you’ll leave with a camera full of photos, a heart full of stories, and maybe even a little tan.
