Volunteering abroad
Want to put your hard-earned skills to use and make a difference on your sabbatical? Join a volunteer project! It's the perfect way to continue adding to your CV while you travel.
We offer volunteer projects in marine, wildlife and environmental conservation, as well as community projects teaching English and helping with construction.
Backpacking adventures
A career break doesn't have to come with the pressure of self-development and CV-boosting activities - you can travel simply for the sake of travelling.
Travel like a backpacker staying in hostels and using local transport. Or if you're too old for dorms, upgrade to an escorted group tour with everything taken care of for you.

Trekking expeditions
A sabbatical is the perfect opportunity to start working your way through your bucket list. And we hope at least one challenging trek is on that list!
Choose from the famous W Trek, the iconic Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu or really test yourself by getting to Everest Base Camp or scaling Kilimanjaro.
Sabbatical Travel FAQS
When's the best time to take a sabbatical?
That's a decision you get to make. You might want to take a few months or a year out between jobs. Or if you've been with your company long enough, you might be lucky enough to take sabbatical leave and return to your job a few months later.
The best time to take your career break depends on your priorities. You can always find a new job when you get back and employers won't be put off by you travelling. In fact, many companies look for the personal and practical skills that people develop while travelling, so use your sabbatical to your advantage.
Where should I go on a sabbatical?
The world is truly your oyster on a sabbatical! With a round-the-world ticket in your pocket, you can explore multiple continents in one trip, combining stops in Africa, Asia, Australia and the Americas for a better rate than booking loads of individual one-way flights.
Australia, New Zealand and Canada are popular destinations for travellers thanks to their generous working holiday visas. If you're aged between 18-30-years-old (35 for Australia and New Zealand), you can apply for a one-year visa that enables you to work and earn money while you travel. There are even options to extend that first year into a second, and even third year! It's a great way of getting to know a country while funding your travels and keeping your CV up-to-date and relevant.
Asia is a great choice if you're interested in personal development of a more spiritual kind - here you can learn yoga in its birthplace. And there's the added bonus of being able to travel around multiple countries cheaply and easily. Latin America is another popular option - learn just one language and you can talk your way across most of the continent.
Africa should be number one on your list if you're a wildlife lover or want to volunteer with animals. You can take an overland camping expedition from Cape Town to Nairobi and cover nine African countries in just 55 days. Or you could combine that with volunteering at wild cat sanctuaries and impoverished community centres.
How long should a sabbatical be?
That all depends on how long you've got. And how long you can afford to take time out of work. You might only have a month or two at your disposal, or you might be lucky enough to have a year free to travel the world.
We firmly believe travel makes you a better person. So if you want to take a couple years out of adulting to travel, we say 'GO FOR IT!'.
