This round-the-world itinerary is only a route proposal for your big trip. If you would like to visit destinations other than those suggested or add in more stops, reach out to our team of travel experts who can help you put together your dream adventure.
The first stop on your round-the-world adventure is Cape Town in South Africa. Here you can hike to the top of Table Mountain for incredible views of the city and ocean. You can also visit Boulders Beach to hang out with the local penguin community or visit the Robben Island Museum to get better acquainted with South Africa's history.
When Cape Town has done all it can to satisfy your curiosity, head east through the vineyards of Stellenbosch and the gorgeous coastline near Port Elizabeth. You could easily spend a few weeks following South Africa's Garden Route with Johannesburg as your final destination.
Your second flight on this trip departs from Johannesburg, and while you're here, you can't miss the opportunity to spend a few days on safari in the world-class Kruger National Park. Here you have the opportunity to spot the Big 5 - buffalo, rhino, elephants, leopards and lions.
After bidding Asia farewell, you land in Melbourne to start your next adventure Down Under. Melbourne is another city that could easily keep you entertained for a week or two with visits to the iconic St. Kilda fairground and the nearby 12 Apostles on the Great Ocean Road. When you're ready, continue your journey north to Sydney.
In Sydney spend a few days admiring the iconic opera house and bridge or get active in the Blue Mountains. You could also head a further north to Byron Bay and learn to surf.
When you're ready to bid Australia farewell, your next flight takes you across the water to Christchurch on the south island of New Zealand.
The charming town of Christchurch is your gateway to New Zealand's south island. From here you can head further south to Queenstown for a few days of adrenaline-inducing activities or more sedate cruising around the awe-inspiring fjordlands.
When you're ready for a change of scenery, take the ferry from Picton on the south island to Wellington on the north island. Windy Wellington might not have the best of climates, but the city is home to some excellent museums and a burgeoning food scene.
From Wellington you can head further into the semi-tropical north to explore the Jurassic-style thermal parks of Rotorua, the rushing waters of the Kaituna River and expansive Lake Taupo.
Auckland is your final stop in New Zealand. If you've got the time, you could head further northwest all the way to Cape Reinga or stay a little closer to the capital and explore the undeniably scenic Bay of Islands or the Bay of Plenty.
When you're ready to depart, your next flight takes you across the Pacific Ocean to Chile in South America.
The South American leg of your adventure starts in Santiago de Chile where you can learn about the country's history at the city's many world-class museums. There's a number of fantastic vineyards close to the city where you can sample Chile's famous red wines. Or you could head further afield and explore the street art of Valparaiso on the coast.
From Santiago, you have a few options to choose from for getting to your next departure point of Rio de Janeiro. You could head further north to the Atacama desert and then cross over into the far north of Argentina and continue to the spectacular Iguazu Falls on the border with Brazil.
Or from Santiago you could continue your exploration of South America's best vineyards and head straight over the border to Mendoza in Argentina. From here you can continue east to Buenos Aires, pop over to Uruguay for a day or two, and then head into Brazil. The choice is yours.
Your epic adventure across the southern hemisphere finishes in Rio de Janeiro. Here you can spend time enjoying the famous beaches, head up Sugarloaf Mountain and admire the towering Christ the Redeemer statue - voted one of the world's new wonders.
If you time your journey right, you could reach Rio in time for carnival - a mind-blowing celebration of Brazil's culture and one of the world's most famous street parties.
