This road trip itinerary is a great mix of big city experiences and some of USA's biggest natural wonders. Set aside about five weeks to give this road trip the time it deserves. Yes, it's a long drive - but you are in for some crazy adventures!

 

Get ready for an unforgettable road trip across the USA! Starting in Dallas you can feast on some classic Texas BBQ before hitting the road. Your next stop is Wichita Falls, where you can check out the scenic waterfalls and enjoy a relaxing day in the park. Drive up to Denver, the Mile-High City, where the Rockies backdrop your urban adventure. Afterward, cruise over to Boulder for some cool college town vibes and outdoor fun.

Then it's time to explore Rocky Mountain National Park. Hike, spot wildlife, and soak in those epic mountain views. Next, make your way to Salt Lake City. Visit the historic Temple Square and take a dip in the Great Salt Lake.

Head north to Jackson, a gateway to Grand Teton National Park. The stunning landscapes here are perfect for hiking and photography. Continue to Yellowstone National Park, the first national park in the world. Don't miss Old Faithful and the colorful Grand Prismatic Spring. Drive on to Helena, Montana’s capital, before hiking into the breathtaking glacier.

Dallas, Ready for this road trip?

Kick off your journey in Dallas, a pretty cool city with a rich history and lively vibe. Don’t miss the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, which offers a deep dive into the life and legacy of President John F. Kennedy, who was killed in Dallas.

Denver, Preparing for the Rockies

Denver, the Mile-High City, offers a mix of outdoor adventure and urban excitement. Drop by the historic Larimer Square where you'll find a lot of restaurants and nightlife. Denver is also a gateway to the Rockies, so there are loads of hiking and biking trails nearby, as well as plenty of other outdoor adventures!

Rocky Mountain National Park, Forests and tundra trails

With bout 500 km of hiking trails, Rocky Mountain National Park is a paradise for hikers of all skill levels. Drive the scenic Trail Ridge Road, which offers breathtaking views and the chance to see wildlife such as elk and bighorn sheep. The park’s diverse ecosystems, from dense forests to alpine tundra, mean there is loads to explore. Make sure to visit Bear Lake, a popular spot known for its stunning reflection of the surrounding peaks. Take that perfect insta shot!

Salt Lake City, Utah's coolest city

Next up is Salt Lake City which is famous for, well, it's salt lake. Check out the city itself, and then make room for at least one night on Antelope Island which offers both beautiful views and great camping by the Salt Lake.

Jackson, Entrance to Grand Teton

Jackson, Wyoming, is your gateway to Grand Teton National Park. Known for its rugged beauty, Jackson offers plenty of outdoor activities, from hiking and fishing to wildlife viewing. The town itself has a charming, rustic feel with wooden sidewalks and old-time saloons.

Grand Teton National Park, Peace, calm and clarity

Grand Teton National Park is renowned for its towering mountain peaks and pristine lakes. Hike the popular Jenny Lake Trail for stunning views of the Tetons. The park is a haven for wildlife, including moose, bears, and bald eagles, so keep your camera ready. Take a scenic drive along Teton Park Road, and don’t miss the serene beauty of Jackson Lake. Whether you’re into kayaking, fishing, or simply enjoying the view, Grand Teton offers a perfect wilderness escape.

Yellowstone National Park, Geysers and wildlife spotting

We recommend that you enter Yellowstone National Park via "Beartooth Highway" which is one of the most scenic routes in USA. Travel a bit north from Wyoming into Montana and continue down US Highway 212 from Red Lodge in southern Montana only to end up inside Yellowstone National Park. Spend some days in this epic national park, and we guarantee that you get some nature experiences that are "out-of-this-world".

Helena, Montana's capital is a lovely place to be

Helena, Montana’s capital, is rich in history and charm. Explore the Montana State Capitol, with its impressive architecture and artwork. Visit the Montana Historical Society Museum to learn about the state’s past, from Native American history to the gold rush era. The Gates of the Mountains, a nearby scenic area, offers boat tours through stunning limestone cliffs.

Spokane, Surrounded by forest

In Spokane you should go to Riverfront Park, a beautifully landscaped area with trails, a historic carousel, and the Spokane Falls. There is a lot of nature nearby with Riverside State Park and Spokane River State Park and 3 (!) national forests.

Olympic National Park, Rainforests, beaches and mountains in one park

Olympic National Park in Washington is renowned for its diverse ecosystems, ranging from rugged coastline to rainforests and mountain peaks. Hike the Hoh Rain Forest trail to experience the park’s unique temperate rainforest. Visit Hurricane Ridge for panoramic mountain views and wildlife spotting. The park’s coastal areas, like Rialto Beach, offer stunning seascapes and tide pools.

Seattle, End of the ride!

End your journey in Seattle, a city that perfectly blends urban excitement with natural beauty around it. Visit the iconic Space Needle for panoramic views of the city and surrounding mountains. Explore Pike Place Market, where you can try local foods and watch the famous fish-tossing vendors. Seattle’s cool neighborhoods, architecture and great food make it the perfect end to your epic road trip.
