Start your South Africa with a night in Johannesburg before setting off on a 5-day safari through the Kruger National Park. You'll spend two nights in the cosy Bush Lodge, situated in a private reserve where animals roam freely and unrestricted. There'll be day and night drives to spot wildlife and visit popular watering holes.
For a change of scenery, on day four you'll head off on the Panorama Route, famous for many natural wonders and viewing points. First stop will be to view the impressive Blyde River Canyon. Then it's onto the tranquil Greenfire Lodge Hazyview for more safari adventures.
After a final night back in Johannesburg, you'll fly to Cape Town to start your two-week volunteer project.
Your stay in Cape Town starts with a 2-day orientation, where you will take part in a welcome meeting and a local barbecue party, known locally as a braai. You will also receive a small welcome pack with a t-shirt, book and sim card. The next morning you will head into Cape Town for a guided walking tour and afterwards you will hop on a bus and head to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront harbour area for food and drinks.
After the orientation, the work begin. You'll be volunteering five days a week, Monday through Friday. Volunteers assist in the day-to-day running of the kindergarten and give one-on-one attention to children in need. In order to get the most out of your experience as a volunteer, you need to be positive, proactive and ready for new challenges.
Once the project is over, you can choose to spend more time exploring the city and the surrounding area of Cape Town. Now is the perfect time to hike (or take a cable car) up Table Mountain, visit Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was held in prison during the apartheid era, or make a trip to the Cape of Good Hope (and maybe spot some penguins on the way!).
Then it's time to hop on your return flight home. Of course, you can always continue your adventures elsewhere...
