Indonesia's most popular island is a backpacker favourite for a reason - it's got stunning tropical beaches, delicious food and excellent opportunities for surfing and diving. Here's how to sample all of that in four weeks and enjoy the Best of Bali.

Start your Bali adventure learning how to catch a wave at a surf camp in Canggu. Classes are perfect for beginners or those moving onto the intermediate level. Then you'll join a group tour to explore more of the island, including some of its stunning temples and luminous rice fields. A ferry ride will take you to Gili Trawangan where you can head under the sea and learn to dive. Next, it's time to explore on your own - visit the neighbouring Gili islands or take in the highlights of Lombok before making your own way back to Denpasar.

This itinerary is just a suggestion and can be customised to suit your unique travel plans. Make it longer, make it shorter. Add in the things you want to do. Get in touch with our travel experts to turn this itinerary into your dream Bali trip.

Canggu Bali at its best

After landing in Denpasar airport head straight to Canggu (arrival airport transfer included). This is the best place to start your Bali adventure. You'll start the journey in one of the coolest surf camps in Bali, where you have five days to master the board and the waves. Canggu serves all surf levels, so whether you're a beginner or an advanced surfer, you'll find a wave to suit you.

During your free time in Canggu, enjoy a beautiful sunset at The Lawn while sipping your colourful cocktail. Later on, it gets wet and wild at Finn’s Beach Club. With four pools, nine bars, five restaurants and live DJs, this place is dubbed to be the world's best beach club.

After five days at the surf camp, you'll meet a new tribe of fellow travellers for a 9-day group adventure through Bali. It's the perfect chance to immerse yourself in Indonesian culture and explore stunning Hindu temples. After another epic night out in Canggu, it's time to change the scenery and venture off to Lovina.

Lovina Beach A dolphin lover's paradise

Your next destination is the relatively unknown natural wonder of Lovina, an untouched paradise of stunning rice paddies and fascinating culture. On the way you'll visit fascinating temples and epic waterfalls. The accommodation here is stunning - set high in the mountains, surrounded by rice paddies and overlooking the ocean.

The next day, you and your new travel buddies embark on a traditional Balinese boat to explore the beautiful coastline and spot dolphins. Meet a local family and learn about their traditional Balinese culture and way of life. After a long day, it's time to chill in the villa’s infinity pool.

Gili Trawangan Turtles and Coconuts

Next up, it's a ferry ride to the island of Gili Trawangan - one of the three Gilis. The island is small, yet has a lot to offer, with banging nightlife and stunning beaches. With no motorised vehicles on the island, a bike is the best way to get around, and you'll enjoy a bike tour with a spot of snorkelling. You might just be lucky enough to spot a turtle.

If the snorkelling trip didn't get you close enough to the underwater wildlife, the next five days certainly will! We've included a 5-day learn-to-dive package, and Gili T is one of the best places in the world to become a PADI certified diver. If you're already certified, you can swap this for an advanced course or a fundive package. Let our travel experts know what you prefer.

Alternatively, you can stay on dry land and we'll help you out with other arrangements on Gili T instead.

Lombok or Nusa Lembongan Take your pick

The next few days are free for you to explore independently. If you're feeling adventurous, take the ferry to Lombok, the big island located to the east of the Gilis. The beaches on Lombok are paradise, especially Tanjung Aan Beach.

Want more diving or to try a spot of surfing? Then we recommend heading over to Nusa Lembongan on your way back to Bali. Lucky divers may spot manta rays here. This island is getting more and more popular with backpackers, but still has that authentic traveller’s vibe. Trust us - you'll feel right at home here.

*These are suggested experiences and not included in the package price.

Back to Bali Jungle vibes

Now it is time for some proper monkey business. Take another ferry back to Bali and head out to Ubud on your own and experience the jungle vibes of this town. Do yoga. Rent a scooter to explore the surroundings.

Check out the beach town of Uluwatu and treat yourself with some awesome backpacker vibes. Don’t forget to visit the famous Pura Luhur temple early in the morning to avoid the crowds.

When you're done exploring Bali you can either jump on the plane home, or continue the journey onwards. If you want more than Bali, just let us know and we'll make sure that you keep going.
