Ditch the long check-in times of the airport and travel by train from London to Cologne to start your adventure.
Make your way to London St. Pancras to board the Eurostar to the city of Cologne in Germany. The journey takes five hours and travels via Brussels. This is a ticket that needs to be booked in advance with a reservation fee of around £50.
To ease you into your semi-independent adventure, we've included three nights at a centrally located hostel in Cologne*. Use this time to explore the city at leisure before the next leg of your journey.
And remember - this is a suggested itinerary. With your included Interrail pass, you can choose your route through Europe. If Germany and Cologne don't appeal to you, we can help suggest an alternative route. But use this itinerary as a guide to what's possible.

Your included Interrail pass gives you four days of train travel to use in one month.
For the quickest and most efficient route to Croatia, we suggest taking the train from Cologne to Stuttgart next. It's a short journey of around 2hrs. You can either take a morning train and spend the afternoon exploring the city. Or opt to spend the night and sort out your own accommodation.
Whenever you're ready to leave Stuttgart, take the overnight train out of Germany to Zagreb in Croatia. The total journey time is around 15hrs and arrives into Zagreb around 11am. It's a particularly scenic morning ride as the train approaches its destination.
As the capital of Croatia, Zagreb has plenty to keep you entertained for a few days. Wander the pedestrian-friendly Tkalčićeva Street lined with outdoor cafes, admire the 18th- and 19th-century Austro-Hungarian architecture and check out the local nightlife.
After you've experienced all that Zagreb has to offer, use your Interrail pass to get to Split with an 8hr train ride. We recommend spending a few nights in Split to explore independently before the next leg of your adventure.
In Split you'll board what will be home for the next week and meet the people you'll be sharing the adventure with.
The yacht features a fully stocked kitchenette, indoor dining and lounging area. On deck there is open seating and lounging space on the bow and seating and lounging in a covered area on the stern. Over the course of eight days you'll travel the Dalmatian coast by sailboat, explore ancient Roman ruins and discover secluded beaches. Opt to hike through the national park in Mljet that inspired Odysseus for years, or take a tour of the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Dubrovnik, which offer insight into Croatian culture and architecture.
Anchor in the quiet bay of Milna, Hvar, and opt to experience the vibrant night life on land. Explore the beaches as the tide comes in and shifts their shape. Enjoy free time to explore the Mediterranean port town of Dubrovnik. The city boasts plenty of churches, monasteries, fountains, and plazas to discover.
These sailing trips are popular and book out months in advance so get in early and secure your cabin with a fixed departure!
At the end of your sailing trip, we recommend spending an extra night or two in Dubrovnik to see more of the city. Then it's up to you what's next. You could head home on a cheap flight with budget airlines like EasyJet or Ryanair. Or you could continue your adventure and see more of Croatia, like the stunning Plitvice National Park.
If you choose to upgrade your Interrail pass to include more travel days, you could also return home by train, following a different route through Europe to see more historic cities. The choice is yours!
