London to Lyon First stop

Ditch the long check-in times of the airport and travel by train from London to Lyon to start your adventure.

Make your way to London St. Pancras to board the Eurostar Paris (total journey time around 6hrs). Of course, there's always the option to spend a few days in Paris, as this is a flexible itinerary - you call the shots!

To ease you into your semi-independent adventure, we've included three nights at a centrally located hostel in Lyon*. Use this time to explore the city at leisure before the next leg of your journey.

And remember - this is a suggested itinerary. With your included Interrail pass, you can choose your route through Europe. If France and Lyon don't appeal to you, we can help suggest an alternative route. But use this itinerary as a guide to what's possible.

*Option to upgrade room, choose a different property or extend your stay in the city.

Lyon to Madrid Highlights of Spain

When you're ready to leave Lyon, take the train to Barcelona in neighbouring Spain (the journey takes approximately 5hrs). It's a scenic journey so aim to depart in the morning for a chance to enjoy the views.

Barcelona is one of Europe's most captivating cities, so spend a few days here exploring the many highlights, ranging from Gaudí's iconic architecture to beautiful beaches and a thriving culinary scene.

You set the pace on this itinerary, so after your time in Barcelona is over, board the train to Madrid - a shorter journey at around 3hrs. Madrid is another city worth exploring, so spend a few days visiting the museums, wandering the busy streets and enjoying the vibrant nightlife.

Madrid to Lisbon Via Porto

When you're ready to leave Spain, take the train to the border town of Vigo. You have the option to stay here for a night or two, and you can choose where you go next - to Porto (over the border in Portugal) or straight to Lisbon further south.

The journey from Vigo to Porto takes around 1.5hrs while the journey to Lisbon takes closer to 7hrs.

Porto is a fabulous city, so we recommend stopping off here for a few days to explore the historic Ribeira district, cross the iconic Dom Luís I bridge, visit the Clérigos Tower, and enjoy port wine tours and tastings.

Then continue to Lisbon where you can spend a few days exploring independently before getting ready for a challenge on the water!

Ericeira Learn to surf

Located on the south-western tip of Europe, the town of Ericeira is blessed with sunshine and consistent swells from the Atlantic Ocean throughout the year. And it's here where you'll be learning to ride the waves with expert surf instructors.

Over the next eight days you'll be hanging out with surfers of all levels from all over the world. Accommodation and breakfast is included in the package, as well as five 3hr surf lessons covering everything you need to know to confidently ride a wave. Plus loads of practice time too!

During your stay at the surf camp you're bound to have a great surf experience, make a bunch of new friends, get a nice tan and a big smile on your face.

At the end of time here, you're free to make your own way back home or continue exploring - perhaps head further south to enjoy the beaches of the Algarve. Or book a cheap flight home to the UK - the choice is yours!
