Lost City Trek 4D/3N

Day 1: Santa Marta - El Mamey - Camp 1, Colombia

Today you will be picked up at your accommodation and transferred to El Mamey where you will begin your hike through the jungle and start enjoying the diversity of fauna and flora of the road.

Trek to Camp 1 (L/D)

On the first day, make your way to the meeting point to start an adventurous 2 1/2 hour drive by 4x4 to the small countryside town of Mamey. After having lunch, we’ll set off for a hike taking about 3 hours to reach our first sleeping area. The overall climb on the first day is about 520 meters with regular snack breaks and a hearty meal by candlelight when you reach your destination. Teyuna is a sacred place for Native people, please remember to respect the past and the customs of the town: Respect the privacy of farmers and Indians, do not come into their houses or take pictures without asking them first. Take into account that this is a raining, humid and temperate zone with cold nights between 18° and 22°. Please take just the essential stuff; the weight of your backpack is an important factor for your comfort. Bring all the garbage back to Santa Marta; the Park and the zone don't have garbage recollection service. Inside the park there is no signal for mobile phones, so let your family and friends know that you will have communication once you get back to Santa Marta. Please follow the guide’s recommendation. (7-kilometer trek; 4 hours approx)

Day 2: Camp 1 - Camp 3, Colombia

Walk through the Kogi indigenous village and cross the Buritaca River.

Trek to Camp 3 (B/L/D)
The day begins and we have breakfast early in the morning, then we start to walk by the riverside of Buritaca River where we’ll find plenty of houses which make part of a Kogi indigenous village called Mutanshi. Our trek during the day will take about 7 hours going through the jungle of Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and enjoying the biodiversity to finally reach the third camp (equipped with hammocks, beds and tents) where we´ll have a delicious dinner and rest after an adventurous day.(14.7-kilometer trek; 7 hours approx.)

Day 3: Camp 3 - Lost City - Camp 2, Colombia

Climb up 1,200 steep, mossy steps to reach the Lost City and explore the site.

Visit to the Lost City (B/L/D)
Wake up for an early breakfast before starting climbing up 1.200 steps to our main destination, a trail constructed by Tayrona people to reach the beautiful Lost City. Once we get there, the guide will show us everything related to this magic place full of relics and ancestral stories. We’ll spend the morning enjoying the landscapes and having enough time to rest and take pictures. Nestled on the slopes of the Rio Buritaca river valley, the site overlooks the region from 1,300 meters above sea level. Here you will have magnificent views overlooking the dense jungle and rugged terrain. After the site visit, we’ll have lunch at Camp 3 and then go back to Camp 2, where we'll have dinner and spend the night. (6-kilometer trek; 7 hours approx.)

Day 4: Camp 2 - El Mamey - Santa Marta, Colombia

Final hike & back to El Mamey to reach your Santa Marta transfer.

Trek back to Camp 1 (B/L/D)
The final day of this experience begins with an early breakfast at the camp, followed by a trek back to the place where it all began, stopping at rivers and waterfalls for refreshing breaks (If the weather allows it). Finally, we arrive at El Mamey, where we'll have lunch before being picked up by our 4WD car to return to Santa Marta, where we'll arrive between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. (depending on weather conditions and your group) Tired and amazed at the new life experience we've had in the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta. This will take 7-8 hours (16.5 km, some uphill, mostly downhill).
