Welcome to Cambodia and the start of your mini gap year adventure!
You'll be met at the airport and transferred to the hotel where you'll get the chance to meet your new travel crew - the people who will be joining you on this 10-day tour through Cambodia's highlights. Enjoy dinner together before catching up on some sleep after your flight.
The next day you head out to explore the busy streets of Phnom Penh on a tuktuk ride. You'll also visit the S21 Prison and the original Killing Fields to learn about the dark history of this fascinating country - a must to properly understand the journey of the Cambodian people in recent decades.
The next stop is the riverside city of Kampot, known for its pepper plantations and salt fields. The city also has many attractive buildings dating from the colonial period, including the Governor’s Mansion.
You'll spend two days here with a river kayak trip and a cooking class to put some of that famous pepper to use!
Then it's on to the beautiful island of Koh Rong where you'll enjoy the tropical islands with snorkelling trips and boat rides. There'll also be time to relax at leisure before an overnight bus to Siem Reap.
Arriving into Siem Reap, you'll venture out into the rural areas to visit traditional floating villages. The following day you'll rise early to watch the sun rise over the spectacular temple ruins of Angkor Wat. Spend the remainder of the day exploring some of the most popular temples in the archaeological complex including Ta Prohm where Tomb Raider was filmed.
Say goodbye to your new travel friends but not to Cambodia, as you'll be heading off for the next chapter of your mini gap adventure.
The Greenway School in the Pul village of Samraong in Cambodia teaches English to children from poorer backgrounds, who otherwise could not afford education. As a volunteer, you'll be working alongside local teachers to prepare lessons and follow the structured curriculum to help over 100 children aged six to 13 learn English.
You might find yourself teaching solo to a full class of eager students or providing one-on-one help to students struggling with the course material. A orientation session is included at the start of your project to build your confidence and get you familiar with the curriculum and teaching materials.
Accommodation is included, as well as three meals a day during the week and two on the weekend.
Two weeks is the minimum time commitment for this volunteer project, but you can opt to spend up to eight weeks teaching English here as a volunteer. Let us know your preference and we'll update your gap year program according to your wishes.
After completing your volunteer project, it's time to say goodbye to Cambodia and return to Siem Reap for your flight home to the UK. If you'd prefer to extend your trip and explore more of Southeast Asia, this is also an option. We can tailor this gap year program to suit you.
