Welcome to Fiji and the start of your gap year adventure!
Arriving into Nadi airport, you'll receive a warm welcome from our local team with a 'meet and greet' and transfer to your accommodation. For the next three nights you'll be staying in a 4-bed mixed dormitory (option to upgrade available) at Smugglers Cove - a popular hotel located on Wailoaloa Beach.
Infused with a Fijian and Pacific Island cultural ambiance, the spectacular nightly entertainment features the Kavaholics, Polynesian and Fijian ‘Hulas’ with Fire Dancing shows. You’ll have a blast joining in with the crowd dancing in the sand pit!
Take the first day to relax after your long flight. Then consider taking advantage of your included full-day experience at Malamala Beach Club - the world’s first island beach club. Surrounded by crystal-clear waters, the beach club offers a delicious à la carte menu and handcrafted cocktails.
Experience the white sand beach, resort-style infinity edge pool, use of complimentary non-motorised watersports equipment and laid back tunes played all day long. Add on a poolside daybed or beachside cabana with butler service for a day you won’t forget!
After your four days in Nadi, it's time to explore more of Fiji's stunning tropical islands, starting with South Sea Island. Take a local ferry across to the island and spend two nights here with loads of complimentary water sports to get involved with.
Continue to Kuata Island where you can hike to the summit above the resort for a spectacular sunset and snorkel with reef sharks. Spend two nights here.
After a morning transfer to Drawaqa Island, spend the day checking out the resort. Grab a drink and do the Sunset Tube Cruise and the next day you will get to swim with manta ray (May - Oct) or go on a guided snorkelling trip.
Then board the Yasawa Flyer and travel north through these beautiful islands to the Blue Lagoon region. Spend the afternoon chilling or exploring the famous Blue Lagoon. Enjoy the trip to the sacred Sawa-I-Lau caves - a true highlight of the trip!
Head southbound on the Yasawa Flyer in the early afternoon. Explore the surrounding area with a guided hike followed by a Fijian cooking demo. Chill for most of the final day of your island-hopping package with a mid-afternoon transfer arriving back to Port Denarau.
Make your way to Nadi airport for your included flight to Suva where the next leg of your gap year adventure begins!
After all of that sun, sea and sand, it's time to get serious and give back with a four-week volunteer project assisting early childhood development in the Dawasamu District of Fiji.
You'll spend your first few days here in training and getting to understand Fijian culture with a tour of the village you will be calling ‘home’ for your stay. Training will cover TELF techniques, how to deliver structured learning through play, and provide caregivers with their child's development.
Participants will be working towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, Quality Education, by developing and delivering sessions for children under five years of age that support their development in key areas such as cognitive, emotional, social and physical skills. To ensure a holistic approach, participants also deliver short courses to caregivers communicating the importance of early childhood development and how children can be supported in their development at home.
Your weekly schedule is varied, with activities including lesson planning, community visits, delivering caregiver sessions, and engaging young children in play. You'll be supported by trained field staff and local teachers throughout your project.
Accommodation during your stay includes basic mixed-gender dormitory style rooms in a Fijian bure with wooden walls and a tin roof. There is a communal kitchen, work area, and general living space where you can prepare for project work and socialise with your new friends.
If you wish to volunteer for longer in Fiji, you can spend up to 12 weeks at the project - just let us know your preference and we'll organise your program accordingly.
Once your volunteer project has come to an end, make your to Suva airport for your return flight home to the UK.
