Welcome to the Philippines and the start of your gap year adventure!
You'll be met at the airport in Manila and transferred to your hotel where you can relax after your flight. The next day you'll head out on the Masungi’s Discovery trail. Admire the sprawling limestone formation of the geo reserve, home to the last of the remaining species of protected flora and fauna in the Philippines.
On day three you'll continue to Banaue - famed for its spectacular rice terraces. Over the next four days you'll visit authentic local villages, get involved in agri-tourism activities at local farms and swim in pristine waterfalls.
After a free day to enjoy Banaue at your leisure, return to Manila for a domestic flight to the island of Siargao.
Siargao is home to some of the clearest lagoons in the archipelago and it's a great base for visiting some of the nearby islands for a spot of beach hopping. Spend a day visiting the beautiful islands of Naked/Daku & Guyam island with a BBQ lunch on one of the islands.
On the following day learn how to ride the waves with a surfing lesson. Then it's time to move onto the island of Cebu and the "Queen City of the South". Enjoy a guided tour of Cebu City that will include a journey to the famous tourist attractions, including cathedrals and historical markers, that make Cebu an important part of Philippine history as well as its story of colonial past and Christianity.
Your tour comes to an end in Cebu, but your gap year adventure continues with a domestic flight to Dumaguete to start your once-in-a-lifetime volunteer project.
For the next six weeks you'll be learning scientific diving and studying marine biology in the Visayas region of the Philippines. As a volunteer, you'll be contributing to the preservation of the fragile coastal reefs that surround many of the islands in the Philippines.
Whether you're learning to dive for the first time or an experienced diver looking to gain new skills, this incredible volunteer project provides options for everyone. Get your PADI certificate with practice and excursion dives until you're ready to tackle more complex tasks, while experienced divers can jump straight in!
During your six-week volunteer project, all diving lessons and equipment is provided, as well as accommodation and three meals a day. You'll be joining an international group of like-minded young adults and, aside from diving excursions, you'll be assisting with beach clean-ups and community work.
Six weeks is the minimum time commitment for this volunteer project, but you can spend up to 12 weeks here in Dumaguete, diving and contributing to valuable marine conservation. Let us know your preference and we'll tailor this gap year volunteer program to suit you.
When your volunteer project comes to an end, you'll fly back home to the UK via Manila. Though you also have the option to explore more of Southeast Asia and neighbouring countries like Indonesia or Vietnam. The choice is yours!
