Welcome to Tanzania and the start of your adventure!

A welcome meeting will be held and the first night spent in Arusha. The following day you'll visit the Mto wa Mbu village with a guided cultural walk and traditional lunch with a local family.
Spend the afternoon viewing wildlife along the main road that winds through a lush cool forests of Lake Manyara National Park, overgrown with ficus trees and covered with bromeliads. This area is truly stunning, as the western wall of the Rift Valley escarpment provides a gorgeous backdrop. Search for the phenomenal birdlife, tree-climbing lions, elephants, giraffes, and hippos.
For the next three days you'll encounter incredible wildlife as you travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and on to Serengeti National Park.
Game drives will get you close to the action and you'll see all types of famous African animals, including zebra, wildebeest, flamingos, lion and so much more!
Marvel at the sheer vastness of this territory and soak up the spectacular view of the Ngorongoro crater from your campsite on its rim.
Leaving the area, you'll head back to Arusha for your short but scenic flight to the tropical island paradise of Zanzibar. Along the way stop at an authentic Maasai village.
Enjoy an orientation walk in historic Stone Town, and if you like, opt to continue on for a longer walking tour to visit the Old Slave Market and Palace Museum.
The following day visit a local spice plantation for a guided tour before taking two full days to relax on the pristine white-sand beaches of Zanzibar. Do as little or as much as you like! You can opt to take a dhow boat ride or snorkel in the crystal clear waters.
Finally it will be time to say goodbye to your safari pals as this chapter of your gap year story comes to an end. But an exciting new chapter is just about to begin!
Your volunteer project kicks off with a Culture Week designed to help you explore the rich culture and complex history of Zanzibar, while meeting the amazing people who call this fantastic place home. You will visit local sites, have language lessons, and try your hand at a local cooking class.
Then it's time to get to work with a two-week teaching assistant project. As an international volunteer, you'll be helping local teachers provide a powerful environment for student learning in Zanzibar and broaden the perspectives of the students who might otherwise have limited international exposure.
You will be assisting local teachers by singing and playing educational games. You can also engage the kids in activities such as arts and crafts, sports, drawing, colouring, writing, and more.
Our teaching assistant program is designed to help children aged 5 to 14 learn more effectively. The school is open from 08:00 to 12:00 in the morning. You will also be expected to spend time on lesson planning. The program also includes evening teaching sessions with students aged 4 to 20 years at a community centre.
You will be staying in a volunteer house in Chukwani - close to the popular area of Stone Town. The village offers a more local experience compared to the bustling tourist areas. You will be staying in a traditional and comfortable guesthouse with multiple shared bedrooms, bathrooms, a kitchen, and one sitting room where you can relax with the other volunteers.
All meals will be provided at this accommodation.
If you wish to volunteer for longer in Tanzania, you can spend up to 16 weeks at the teaching assistant project - just let us know your preference and we'll organise your program accordingly.
Once your volunteer project has come to an end, make your to Zanzibar airport for your return flight home to the UK.
